Maplin specialize in the design and construction of laboratory cold rooms operating from -40°C to up to +10°C

Maplin laboratory specification rooms should not be confused with general purpose rooms more suited to retail or catering use.

We can build to our clients’ required dimensions, to ensure that the room will make optimum use of the available space. Size is no limit, from a few square metres all the way to hundreds of square metres Maplin can design and build a laboratory cold room of your choice.

Built to laboratory specifications, all wall and ceiling joints are finished with a coved detail, vinyl floors can be coved into the walls giving a smooth easy clean finish to the room. For heavier duty operations sheet metal and concrete flooring is available.

The structure is typically formed from 100mm Polyisocyanurate (PIR) — a superb insulation material that has the added benefit of being fire retardant. The insulation is finished as standard with white food-safe plastic coated steel sheets, giving an attractive easy to clean surface both within and outside the room.

During manufacture, we can incorporate plywood boards within some or all of a room’s insulated wall panels to enable the client to secure shelving or fittings to the inside of the room.

Although not common, it is possible to incorporate Relative Humidity control into the cold room design.

Maplin cold stores (operating below -4°C) may be supplied with an insulated floor so as to prevent long term frost damage to the local structure. The floors may either be inset within, or positioned on top of the structural floor with ramps at doors to assist access.

Heated door frames, floor mats and vision panels are also available on freezers.

Maplin laboratory cold stores generally have a remote refrigeration unit, so any noise and extracted heat is dissipated into an area away from the room.

All Maplin laboratory cold stores have a dedicated control and alarm panel mounted adjacent to the room. This will clearly show the conditions in the room and show an alarm for any deviation from the design conditions. Alarms can be visible, audible, via SMS text message or linked into the Building Management System. Additional alarms may be incorporated for trapped personnel or humidity.
